Center for Visual Music (CVM) is a nonprofit Los Angeles archive which owns, preserves and manages the films of Oskar Fischinger, plus his papers and many of his animation drawings. This blog will be updated with information about our work preserving, promoting and screening Fischinger's films.
To rent or license his films, please contact us at CVMaccess (at) gmail.com
We regularly have Fischinger films (digital versions) in major museums worldwide; right now you can see two films on view in the exhibition Visionaries at the Guggenheim Museum, New York. There is also a film in the Colori exhibition in Turin, Italy; one at Centre Pompidou, Metz (France), and the three-screen HD installation Raumlichtkunst is on view at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre in New Plymouth, NZ.
Our first DVD collection of his work, Oskar Fischinger: Ten Films is available still - right now our server has crashed due to all the attention, but you can buy it on Amazon, and in the shops at Whitney Museum, New York; British Film Institute Southbank, London; and through Walter Koenig in Germany.
When our server comes back up, you can purchase it through www.centerforvisualmusic..org
We are working on the second DVD which will be released later in 2017. You can help with this project, and you'll be thanked in the DVD insert booklet. Contact us for more information on how to donate to the project. CVM is a 501(c)3 nonprofit archive and donations are deductible to the extent allowed by law.
ONLINE:
We have an authorized vimeo channel with excerpts and full films on demand (VOD), at
CVM's Fischinger channel on Vimeo
There are no authorized copies of his work on youtube; the versions of An Optical Poem there are terribly faded and many are stretched, making his circles appear as terribly pink ovals.
MORE SOON!
